Application of Ion Imaging to the Study of Unimolecular and Bimolecular Reactions*

چکیده
We use the photofragment ion imaging technique to investigate the 266-nm photodissociation dynamics of hydrogen iodide. We show the quantitative features of ion imaging by comparing determinations of photofragment recoil velocity distributions, product branching ratios and the HI bond dissociation energy with previously published results. Excellent agreement with previous experimental and theoretical results is obtained. The H atoms produced from this process are then used as reactants in the reaction of H +HI and H +D. Imaging techniques are used to measure the velocity disiributions of the products of these reactions.

Mechanism Discrimination for Bimolecular Reactions: Revisited with a Practical Hydrogenation Case Study
The governing mechanism of surface reactions is a fundamental concern in heterogeneous catalysis. The Langmuir–Hinshelwood (LH) mechanism is widely accepted to control the surface reactions in many catalytic systems. This contribution derives and compares several important surface rate equations to evaluate their quality of fitting to the experimental data collected for a vapor-phase hydrogenat...
متن کاملPressure effects on bimolecular recombination and unimolecular dissociation reactions
The treatment of pressure effects on bimolecular recombinations and unimolecular dissociations is discussed. The analysis of recombination and dissociation reactions is made by showing how the nonequilibrium energy ~E! and angular momentum ~J!-dependent steady-state population distribution functions for the two reactions are related to each other and to the equilibrium population distribution f...
متن کاملMaster equation simulations of competing unimolecular and bimolecular reactions: application to OH production in the reaction of acetyl radical with O2.
Master equation calculations were carried out to simulate the production of hydroxyl free radicals initiated by the reaction of acetyl free radicals (CH3(C=O).) with molecular oxygen. In particular, the competition between the unimolecular reactions and bimolecular reactions of vibrationally excited intermediates was modeled by using a single master equation. The vibrationally excited intermedi...
متن کاملAb initio study of the SN1Ar and SN2Ar reactions of benzenediazonium ion with water. On the conception of "unimolecular dediazoniation" in solvolysis reactions.
The nucleophilic substitution of N2 in benzenediazonium ion 1 by one H2O molecule to form protonated phenol 2 has been studied with ab initio (RHF, MP2, QCISD(T)//MP2) and hybrid density functional (B3LYP) methods. Three mechanisms were considered: (a) the unimolecular process SN1Ar with steps 1 --> Ph+ + N2 and Ph+ + H2O --> 2, (b) the bimolecular process SN2Ar with precoordination 1 + H2O -->...
متن کاملEquilibration in Reversible Bimolecular Reactions
Fast reversible pseudo-unimolecular reactions do not approach equilibrium in the simple exponential fashion predicted by chemical rate equations. Many-body effects in bimolecular reactions have been revealed in an extensive series of Brownian simulations, showing up to three distinct phases in the approach to equilibrium. Recent theoretical developments are compared with the simulation as well ...
